The Bitcoin price right now

The Bitcoin price on this page updates in real time. Above you can see the current price in euros, a history chart for the selected period and a converter to calculate any amount between bitcoin and euros.

The Bitcoin price means the price of one Bitcoin (BTC) in a given currency, on this page in euros. It is set by buy and sell orders on global crypto exchanges and can vary slightly between exchanges.

What moves the Bitcoin price?

  • Supply and demand. Bitcoin's supply is fixed, so changes in demand are reflected directly in the price.
  • The macroeconomy. Interest rates, inflation expectations and risk appetite in global markets also affect Bitcoin.
  • Regulatory news. Major decisions, such as ETF approvals or bans, can move the price quickly.
  • Institutional demand. Purchases and sales by large funds and companies show up in the market.
  • Market psychology. The Bitcoin market often moves strongly with the crowd, both up and down.

The Bitcoin price in brief

During its history the Bitcoin price has gone through several strong cycles of rises and falls. The 2017 rise was followed by a steep fall, and in November 2021 Bitcoin reached its then all-time high of close to $69,000.

In January 2024 the first spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States opened a new route for institutional demand. A full year-by-year review is in the article Bitcoin price history.

The Bitcoin price in euros vs. dollars

For an investor in Finland, the euro price is the most relevant in practice, because purchases and sales usually take place in euro accounts.

International sites often show the price in dollars, in which case the euro-dollar exchange rate also affects the apparent price difference. See the Bitcoin price in euros.

Why does the Bitcoin price swing so much?

The Bitcoin market is still much smaller and younger than the stock or currency markets, which makes the price sensitive to relatively small changes in supply and demand. Leverage in derivatives markets also amplifies moves in both directions.

How is the price shown here calculated?

The price shown on this page is fetched primarily from Binance's public market data: the euro price comes directly from the BTC/EUR pair. If that fails, CoinGecko's price, compiled from trading data across many exchanges, is used as a fallback.

An individual exchange's price can temporarily differ from others, for example because of local liquidity, so always check the final price in the service where you trade.

How to follow the Bitcoin price in practice

  • This page. Shows the live price in euros without logging in.
  • Your crypto exchange's app. Shows the price combined directly with your portfolio.
  • Price alerts. Many exchanges and apps let you set an alert at a certain price level.

If you are a long-term investor, avoid staring at the price constantly every day, as it makes emotional decisions more likely. See investing in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin price: frequently asked questions

Why is the Bitcoin price slightly different on different sites?

The price is set by each exchange's own supply and demand, so small differences between sources are normal.

At what time of day does the Bitcoin price update?

The Bitcoin market is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; the price moves constantly, including at night and at weekends.

Can the future direction of the Bitcoin price be predicted reliably?

No. Nobody can predict the Bitcoin price reliably; all forecasts are speculation.

Is the BTC price on this page exactly the same as on my exchange?

Not necessarily exactly; small differences between sources are normal because of the market's decentralised structure. Always check the final price directly on the exchange you use before trading.
